ALL ONE WORLD EGYPTOLOGISTS TOUR
MORSEEY ALABASTER FACTORY
— WEDNESDAY 16 JANUARY 2008 — LUXOR - WEST BANK, EGYPT — MODERN DAY —

Next stop was another sales presentation for the local industry here in West Luxor.

Alabaster is found in only two places in Egypt, a few miles behind the Valley of the Kings and the Malawi area

Ehab chooses one shop (out of hundreds) and brings his group there. The Morseey Factory has a little demonstration/show before they herd you into the product filled store area.

As the host/MC rhythmically delivered the presentation, in time with the rock crafters’ pounding, the artisans would answer with the rest of the sentence in English.

The colors of alabaster range from pure white to a rich creamy white, and sometimes streaked with various hues of warm, rusty reds.

The most exquisite pieces in the shop were the simple bowls and vases. Janice bought this one.

Most of the shop was devoted to the supposed replica artwork that looks like it was made in a forced labor camp for blind sculptors who loath the refined elegance of the true ancient artwork and style.
